security (everybody feels better with)
As we mentioned back in May, we have a newer, shinier secure version of the del.icio.us API that everyone should be using now. As promised, the time has come to say goodbye to the old version. We’ll be redirecting all queries to it to the secure server starting tomorrow, August 9.
Most scripts shouldn’t break, as modern connection libraries will handle the redirect appropriately. However, for your security, you should still use the new URLs directly rather than relying on the redirects.
We have lots of plans for the delicious API, so keep an eye out!

Look out for the link code in your post, looks like it didn’t parse right.

Can we have a link to something that documents the changes in that new API?
l.m.orchard | Aug 9 2006 at 12:57 pm
Joe: All the methods and calls are the same - just swap the base URL of http://del.icio.us/api/ for https://api.del.icio.us/v1/ It’s a new location and now behind SSL. The major news here is that the legacy API base URL is now redirecting to the new base URL. The most up-to-date docs on the API can be found in the help pages, over here:

Looks like a lot of small changes/new features have come out recently. I have noticed the new search box, and the count on your network/fans and the bold font for mutual contact in your network…..all very nice!

I’ve been using a script for irssi which automatically posts urls in an irc channel to my del.icio.us bookmarks. It’s been working well, but stopped the other day. I’m thinking this is why.
Here’s the script that I use.
http://ranger.befunk.com/misc/deliciousurl.pl
My first thought was that it wasn’t escaping the url and so del.icio.us was doing the escaping on its own, but escaping the url only made it worse.
If you know what I can do to fix this, please let me know.

Thanks for bringing this bug to our attention. There was some double-escaping in the redirects for a few hours. We’ve fixed it and fixed most of the data that came in badly, though if you still have a tag with some funky escaping in it, I would recommend using tag rename at this point.

Thanks for that, I use that script pretty heavily, saves me a lot of copying/pasting.

I’m using the firefox extension ( http://del.icio.us/help/firefox/extension ) and 2 days ago the pop-up window when pressing the “Tag This” stopped providing popular and recommended tags for the URLs. Could it have something to do with the update ?
Britta | Aug 11 2006 at 1:01 pm
It was an unrelated issue, but popular and recommended tags should be working again now. :)

Just FYI, this seems to have killed QuickSilver’s delicious plugin, as well as the Mac program delibar.

FYI - Cocalicious seems not to be working with the new API as well. Even when pasting the new URL.
l.m.orchard | Aug 14 2006 at 8:29 pm
Matthew: What version of Cocoalicious are you using? I’m on v1.0 (43), and it seems to work pretty well with my account. I changed the API URL in the preferences - is this what you mean in saying you were “pasting the new URL”?

Each time I start my computer and open Firefox I get a new popup asking for my delicious login details for the “delicious API”. I’m running FF 1.5.0.6 and Foxylicious 0.5. It started around the time of this upgrade — I was away at the time but noticed it after I came home.
Britta | Aug 15 2006 at 11:58 am
Juango: Try upgrading to Foxylicious 0.6. Your version might be trying to access the old API addresses, which is why you’d be getting the login popup.
Juango | Aug 15 2006 at 1:17 pm
Ah. Thanks, Britta. Had to go to the Foxylicious site — checking for extensions updates was showing no new updates after 0.5.

I’m getting 401: Authorization Required using python with urllib2, with the new URLs and the example python code for Basic Authorization from http://developer.yahoo.com/python/python-rest.html

Ah, before HTTPS fsockopen was enough, now time to upgrade to cURL :C
Eric Fehse | Aug 21 2006 at 3:22 am
Alan,
I also problems using the new api with python. For instance, the pydelicious library doesn’t work anymore. So I tried a few things and found a solution that works, using urllib2. If you’re interested, drop me a mail and I’ll send you the code .

I’m using the firefox extension ( http://del.icio.us/help/firefox/extension ) and Foxylicious and started getting the pop-up window for the delicious API login on Start up of FF and when pressing “Tag This”. Removing the foxylicious extension seems to have solved the problem for now.

Hi! Just a little feature request: It would be great to be able to get posting history for a certain post with the API?
