a fine soirée indeed
We had our party this week, and thanks to all the folks who came to help us celebrate our million user milestone and third birthday. I had a great time meeting everyone and we all were flabbergasted at the response, we were expecting maybe 100 to show up and we had at least twice as many!
A big thanks to everyone who could make it- but especially to Dan and Clara who created a meta version of our cake icon in the form of an actual cake! Finally, we’re sorry that we haven’t invented the beaming technology that could bring all our users to Sunnyvale, but we do have photos. Check them out at http://del.icio.us/party2006!

Is the delicious extension for Firefox going to be updated for Firefox 2.0 soon?
Startups.in/India | Oct 7 2006 at 12:05 am
Sorry for an unrelated post but any specific reason for not having a search box on the home of of del.icio.us? As trivial as it might sound, I think having a search box makes a huge difference as far as the site usability goes.

I’m new to this site but after hearing Allan November talk about it at a teacher conference, I wanted to give it a try. I like what I see already. How do I start up a blog like this?
britta | Oct 9 2006 at 2:04 pm
Martina: hm, there may have been a short hiccup. Delicious Fan: yes, soon! You can use these alternative buttons in the meantime if you like: http://del.icio.us/help/buttons . Startups.in: there’s a search box on the front page if you’re logged in; we’re still thinking about this. Jim: http://del.icio.us/help/getstarted is a good place to begin.

I can’t see the history of the links… Any problem?

We’re upgrading the backend behind the URL history pages today, so they’re temporarily missing — they’ll be back soon.

Thanks, keep the good job :)

Hi, Could the firefox extension page mention that it works only with 1.0-1.5? Install failed with my 2.0rc2 :)
Or better still, could someone update it to work with 2.0, which should be out soon?

Yes, DELISHOES found del.ious.us –I’m Stephanie Seymour, an artist in Italy. Please visit my website http://www.delishoes.com coming out of Italy where I live. My DELISHOES shoe/sculptures are available for events, fairs, where it’s important to attract attention and make people smile… the shoes are NOT made of chocolate but real shoes, fabric, wire, glue, etc. so they will never melt.

I don’t think ANYBODY is paying attention to our whining for a Firefox 2.0 add-on. Yes, it really is in RELEASE CANDIDATE 3 as of this week…and here we sit.
Hello, anyone? Bueller, Bueller???
britta | Oct 17 2006 at 9:14 pm
We’re working on an updated extension for Firefox 2.0, and it’ll be released soon. In the meantime, you can use the alternative buttons if you like, since they work with 2.0: http://del.icio.us/help/buttons

Four years is not a long time, nor a short time for me to open my eyes and visualize what this dragon country looks like. It is two years since I came to China with a curiosity in my mind and desire in my soul to acknowledge whatever I could about this native country of mine. With a month more to go, it seems to me that every second during the stay at this Southern China is like the sands of time running out and revealing secret by secret of its people, its culture, its language and its tradition.
The first time I arrived at GuangZhou East Station directly from HK, I was struck by the restlessness and disorder of the people rushing in and out, carrying packs of luggage and scrambling for a taxi. Yet having observed about me, I felt an undefinable safety. everyone around me was just like myself, an ordinary Chinese; fear, doubt, and worry for my being a stranger here all at once vanished.Yes, I felt safe and secure with my surroundings; no more curious eyes staring at me like I was some kind of alien from other planet; no more abusive languages or mockery that used to be aimed at me whenever I was strolling along the streets. on this very earth of China, I found the safety which I could never find in other places.
When I come to the topic of Chinese people, I don’t think there is requirement for me any more to mention to you in details what Chinese people really look like, for I am also a Chinese. I have known many Chinese here and made some of them my best friends. Once I was invited to stay at a friend’s house in her hometown, I was amazed by the friendliness of every relative and friend of hers. I was treated as if I were one of their families. Despite their simplicity, they take care of their guests in every detail. This arouses my admiration toward the hospitality of Chinese people and I can’t stop comparing this with the reserved and cold neighbourhood in my hometown. When I left , I found I missed the friendliness and warmth of those people.
“What? You plan to study in China? Are you kidding? Isn’t China an underdeveloped country?” These sentences appeared on the screen of the computer when I chatted via internet with my friends. I was enraged with their blindness. What right do they have in saying so, since they have not seen the fact themselves? Fact reveals to you everything. My only reply to them was that I was blessed for having come to China and that I don’t regret at all for my decision. In my eyes, China is a very big developing country; technically designed buildings and suspension bridges are constructed in every corner of the streets; skyscrapers seem to split up the sky, symbolizing the trading centre of the city; vehicle of all sorts, including bicycles of all types, are seen dispersed over the traffic; people wearing sophisticated clothes are holding the mobile phones strolling to their offices. Anyway, all this is evidence that shows apparently to us one thing only. Those moving creatures are now moving to one target, that is modernization and development, which is now coloring this big country.
There is no word more appropriate than amazing to describe the history and culture of China. Never have I lacked the interest in reading A DREAM OF RED MANSION,THE SCHOLARS,A JOURNEY TO THE WEST, THREE KINGDOM, and many others which have been translated into many languages all over the world, including my mother tongue, Indonesian. If you ask me whether I find it difficult or not learning the history of China, I will say that it is like digging into the boundless earth; even if you have reached the bottom, you are still forced to dig deeper and deeper until the utmost foundation.
For me, having chosen China to acquire my advanced study is the best decision I have ever made in my life. The hours during my stay in China are flying as fast as arrow. In a month, I may be back in my birthplace, with perhaps still thousands of questions about this country in my mind. Therefore, the only thing I am supposed to do now, is to learn more and more about this great country. When the time comes, I am sure I will be able to describe proudly to my friends and family what this dragon country really looks like

You may think I am a grandpa, and what I want to tell you here a love story with another pretty good grandma. If really so,you are wrong, totally wrong. I am still a grandson and a senior on campus. And this is even my first love.I think you are more puzzled now.
This is the last year of my college life and most of my roommates have experienced falling in love during the last three years,so they refer to my love as “Love in an Unlikely Season”.But I enjoy the feeling of being in love,I don’t mind what they call it.
We used to study in the same senior middle school and were classmates. We seldom contacted except exchanging a few greeting emails after graduation because we are in two different cities far far away .And this situation didn’t change much until several months ago.
I got a short email with a joking tone from her on the Valentine’s Day.And I kicked the ball back to her with a more romantic reply enclosed with a love poem and a riddle.I even went so far to give her my phone number in case she couldn’t work it out.
Right that night,I got a call from her,she asked me for the answer to the riddle, and I gave her.Though the talk lasted only a few minutes,we were both happy and she gave me her phone number too.
Unfortunately, she broke her ankle several days later while roller-skating and thus we couldn’t exchane emails as frequently as we used to.
In order to express my sympathy for her and make her feel better while lying alone in bed,I began to call her often, maybe three times a week. And my phone bill soared.I told myself that I would stop calling her as soon as she recovered,or I would be in debt.
And at last came the day when she told me gladly that she could walk normally again. On hearing the news which I had longed for so long,I was far from being happy but felt at loss.
I didn’t know why,I didn’t have time to look for the answer either.I just forced myself to concentrate on my study because of the coming exams.
She didn’t know what was happening on my mind and continued to call me from time to time .And I was glad to get her call.Soon I couldn’t help picking up the receiver and dialing the familiar number again.
In those time, our talk on phone became longer and longer. We usually talked on phone for no reason but just chatted aimlessly. And sometimes silence came up unexpectedly but soon we both laughed together to get over it.I remembered clearly that one of our calls lasted a little longer than two hours.
Once,I joked with her that I couldn’t get up early in the cold morning,”Could you please call me to wake me up next morning?”I even didn’t wait for her answer and just went on with my talk.
The next morning,I was woke up by the bell from the phone,I took a look at my clock,it’s only six,my roommates were all in dream.I picked up the receiver unwillingly and answered impatiently “Hello!”
Out came the sweet and familiar voice”I am not making this call to wake you up.I JUST CALLED TO SAY I LOVE YOU.” http://www.bjolb.com
I was shocked.God! How many times I had listened to this beautiful love song alone! How much I had been expecting such a moment. It arrived finally. http://www.cai-qin.com
I paused and then answered with delight :”I am so happy that I don’t know whether It’s in daytime or at night now.”
She giggled and replied:”Certainly it’s at night, for you.CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE TONIIGHT?”
“Yeah.I want to feel more.”I wondered how I could come up with such a smart answer at that time.Maybe it was just there for me but I didn’t have chance to use it before.
Ok.I think you all can guess what happened later and what’s happening between us now.Falling in love is great—staying in love is even better.
But there are bad news too.We have to stay in different cities to get our master’s degree, you all know what that means.Ok.Don’t tell me”out of sight, out of mind”,just pray for us,I beg you.

The task given by the teacher dispersed my mood of laziness, which, in some way, is embedded in my nature. So, I have to write, and more importantly, to think. It has been a long time since I picked up my pen to write and to think with numerous stars blinking their eyes at me. Writing, long ago, was by no means a hard thing for me since I once enjoyed it so much that even my dream, my feelings and my life can only be realized by the ink flowed out from my pen at that time. Those writing days are moving, exciting and glorious part of my life.
That fantastic time began with my sentimental love for a girl in high school. That girl lifted the strobe of my feelings which flowed out from my pen, so clear and clean, that even many years later I still could recall my first poem without a pause, like watching an old movie, real though vague.
“浪里日月白沙,却见她,追逐月华; 泪干梦中红烛,依稀见,玉兔寒宫. 清风独自愁不尽,落叶飘零觅黄花; 踏上沧桑路,痴心往天涯.”
The love has been washed away by the river of time, but the feelings, is still there the moment I read this poem. I still can feel the innocent love of that boy, which sometimes console my heart and my soul, and encourage me to purify my feelings when I got hurt. If you have the experience of watching an old movie that once moved your tears out and still could touch you many years later, you will understand my feelings.http://www.bjolb.com
When I watched the shining stars in the dark sky, the idea comes to me that each of us once was born so pure, just like that star, shining out the innocent hope for the world. However, we grew up and matured with the day replaced by the night, the sun giving way to the moon. We came to know that besides the word “joy” there is also one called “sad”. We were struggling to stay the warmth of the sun, to evade the coldness of the night, only to find out inability and insignificance before this world. The spring never stays longer and the winter never comes later. We, finally, find that we are deserted on a place called earth, lonely and hopelessly. Have you ever thought why a child is afraid of darkness and why a man in agony always murmur a word “Mum”? We are weak, not strong in nature. We feel cold and afraid in this planet, and so we turn our telescope into the space, not only to search out, but also to search in.
We are born with many dreams and hopes, which, however, in some way are too heavy for us to continue our journey. We, therefor, have to abandon many, carry few. Nevertheless, even these few are not easy for us to realize. Some will succeed, but most will fail. Paradoxically, the joy brought by the success for which we are willing to sacrifice a lot is always ephemeral. We sacrifice a lot, but get a little. More often we will find the things we give up are more important than the goal we pursue. Is a meeting more important than the birthday of your wife, or a contract more emergent than your mother’s longing heart? To live a sober and full life, these things are worth our thinking. http://www.cai-qin.com
Thank God, once again I can sit down to write and, more importantly, to think. I guess what I am writing here is neither an academic essay nor a research paper which may be preferred by my professor. However, since I have to write, I want write something valuable, if not valuable, at least real. Maybe I do not know the world, but I do know my heart. I know if I can choose, I would rather be an eagle circling lonely in the sky than to be a sparrow flying aimlessly in the crowd.
