help wanted

It’s hiring season again at del.icio.us, and we’re looking to bring a few more engineers on board at our cushy Santa Clara offices. If you are a PHP god, javascript hacker, a database wizard, a UI guru, or a uber C++ ninja, let us know. As the team is so small, entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to learn new things are also a requirement. Finally, enthusiasm for del.icio.us is a BIG plus, as we’re a small team where everyone has a voice and the chance to affect the direction of the product.

Perks are vast and too numerous to spell out here, but include a team t-shirt, a formidable supply of stickers and bookmarks, infinite coffee, and the opportunity to learn a lot, have fun, drink infinite coffee, and change the world. Please send your resume to jobs@del.icio.us along with a cover letter describing why you think you’d be a great addition to the team.

I know python. plus I’m very good with day trading in the stock market. Am I qualify?

  • Hindu_Wardrobe  |  Nov 12 2006 at 8:32 pm

    Ugh, spammers.

Anyway, I can’t seem to access my bookmarks, or much anyone else’s, for that matter.

    What’s going on?

  • goodman_m_w  |  Nov 12 2006 at 8:56 pm

indeed, I haven’t been able to access my bookmarks nor anyone elses for several hours now. They ARE accessible, however, if you search by tags. It seems that it is just personal pages that are down. Support email is also not functioning.

  • Lavinia Weissman  |  Nov 13 2006 at 10:16 am

I began a new page last night, WEonCSREMF and could not get a verification email 3 times.

Tried this morning to change email address and ran into same problem.

It seems I can still access page and last night I lost access a few times.

Want to add to page, but don’t want to risk loosing bookmarks.

    Please advise.

I am not a PHP god or javascript hacker; I am not a database wizard but I’m not too shabby with them; I am not a UI guru, but boy, do I have suggestions.

I have loads of entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to learn new things, so that’s promising isn’t it? I would love to affect the direction of the product considering I’m a user and know what I would like it to do, if possible.

I would love a team t-shirt, a formidable supply of stickers and bookmarks, infinite coffee, and the opportunity to learn a lot, have fun, drink infinite coffee, and change the world. While I’m not so strong on the implementation piece, but could be if I learned how…I’m creative and willing to help. Overhead would remain low because I can’t move to Santa Clara, either. I’d like to work remotely.

Either hire me or good luck! :-)

This isn’t the place, but there isn’t really a place.

You updated your software. I HATE what you’ve done. I only updated because the goddam links weren’t working, and now, you’ve thrown away my static tool bar bookmarks, which I wanted. I DON’T WANT the last few items on delicious there. I wanted it the way it used to work.

    FUCKING yahoo.

I’m going to find a new bookmarking solution, but I am PISSED that you got me to invest so much time into this one, only to fuck it up.

  • Don LaVange  |  Nov 14 2006 at 4:38 pm

Ugh, I can’t believe I wrote that message above. While I am not pleased with the new extensions I should never have used such mean-spirited language and tone, especially in a public forum. My apologies, if the Sysadmin feels like deleting it (and this) I’m all for it. Mea culpa.

This company is attempting to sell food products that could change private sector retailing. Food products that are high end, low cost and donate all proceeds. Similar to Paul Newman`s concept but without the beauracracy and with a goal to expand to other high end quality products and worthy charities. E-mailing the owner he showed a real desire to change how business does business. Perhaps if this works it will change how some charities do charities. Instead of relying on ineffective governmemt programs or even donations from the super rich!

I tried changing my email address a few days ago and am now stuck with a permanent pink message saying that “A verification email has been sent…”, etc. It may have been, but it sure hasn’t arrived, so I can’t get rid of the message. The message also advises trying “settings” a few more times, but that doesn’t help. Can you tell if del.icio.us has really sent the message, or can you reset some flag in my account? Help would be much appreciated! Support hasn’t answered either…

  • jpaulm  |  Nov 22 2006 at 9:35 am

Tried setting it back to the original value using IE… and it worked! Don’t know what made the difference. I wanted to change it to a redirected email address, but I’m not going to risk it again!

    will i get infinite coffee?

  • ed  |  Nov 24 2006 at 12:47 am

Hey, when you’ve got all these new amazing coders hired it would be great to get a ‘friend’-like recommendation system going that will give you recommendations for additions to your network based on your posting history.

I would apply for a job myself especially as I’m looking for a new one, but wrong continent i’m afraid :(

  • Israel Rothman  |  Nov 28 2006 at 8:53 pm

And if you are a salesperson who doesn’t do any programming, but knows approximately what all these things are, see us to sell the hottest product ever!

I love del.icio.us but I wish you’d get help fast because I’m trying to maintain a collection of local town bookmarks and your system just does not work any more. Whenever I make changes they rarely persist, changes with tags, tag bundles, and posts themselves. I can’t change a post but have to delete it and repost with everything correct the first try because I can’t go back in and do exit….. they don’t persist. I’ve mentioned this twice to support and I’ve had some responses but no fixes.

  • NonZionist  |  Nov 29 2006 at 6:47 pm

    feedback@del.icio.us

    Compliments, plus enhancement suggestions

I’m delighted with del.icio.us. The implementation is powerful, simple, and clean. I was amazed to find that your installation script supports my browser and my operating system — Opera 7.54 and SuSE 9.0 Linux . The only features that do not work are the Search button and the in-line editing.

The only problem I have occurs when I rename tags: The database doesn’t resynchronize.

If you are looking for ways to make del.icio.us still more powerful, here are some suggestions:

1: Support partial tag matches to avoid misses due to plurals, suffixes or qualifiers. E.g., a search for “Cheney*” would match a CheneyRichard tag.

2: Support drilling through the public tags cloud — e.g., after clicking on “politics”, a cloud showing “paleocon”, “neocon”, and other popular secondary tags used on the “politics” bookmarks would appear

3: Support multiple links (url’s) per bookmark — for tracking articles that are reposted or posted at more than one site

4: Support templates — tags common to a group of articles, all from the same site

5: Allow bookmarks to be sorted by the link (url) — for grouping articles by site

6: Allow bundles to be bundled — for tag outlines and hierarchies

I’m posting this to your blog because your feedback@del.icio.us address bounces.

How I wish I have the required qualifications. This opportunity sounds [and feels] interesting for those that will make it. Help me out at http://pheroline.blogbugs.org. I do need you.

I never saw one single person ever hired through this method.

It is quite possible that at delicious all is different.

However, being a blog, it may not be immaterial to seize the chance for a few small observations on the topic of hiring.

First of all, you should NOT try to be hired. It is the greatest misconception in the world that in order to get a job, you must be hired.

Then, most companies announce that they are hiring because the _law_ says in several countries they must.

If you think that your capacity and talent is going to be really hired via that channel, you’re dead wrong. Hiring is a process that occurs in the background, no matter what the foreground declares, and you are going to be bypassed by whatever brother, sister, fiancee, dad, mummy, cousin, nephew, lover, without ever having the slightest clue why they dismissed you.

Then, many companies do make evaluations exclusively based upon sex, age, color. Are you 35? You’re refuse to be trashed. If then you are a black woman 35 (i am none of those), you probably never got a real chance at all.

Then, CVs are simply not read. Occasionally it is a machine that reads them, and it decides that if such or such word doesn’t occur often enough, you’re just not their guy.

Then, no company hires talent. Talent happens to them like a misfortune. No company really wants it: talent goes with so many side effects, that is is better to hire a competently trained obtuse monkey: that’s the idea of talent of most companies.

Eventually, persons with a real talent never have a CV or a degree. Einstein was ‘fired’ at his Math exams. Twice. Hemingway had no degree in literature. Benjamin Franklin neither.

All you guys who find this interesting: you will _never_ be hired. period.

Pf course, prove me wrong. It’s so easy. Statistics abound, and everuone twists them as one prefers. One has always some Santa Klaus story to make the cover shiny.

Bu there is no Santa Klaus behind the cover.

Good begging. I wish you could understand that seeking for a job, is just a hopeless pursuit. No one will EVER hire you after the official guidelines.

    Of course, delicious makes exception.

But a blog is a blog, and a topic is a topic and no, I did NOT apply at delicious so I can’t really speak for it. I am sure at delicous it all runs much differently.
