Great to hear that an apparently entirely new version is underway. I have just one wish: Keep it very simple (like now) and don’t bloat it. Features that don’t get used don’t just sit around but become an annoyance. Maybe it would be better just to tweak small things here and there.

I’d love to work here! Also, I find the choice of C++ interesting; is that for the related experience or does del.icio.us really use some C++?
Anyways, I’m just posting to bid for the del.icio.us posting history, at http://del.icio.us/url/… , to be restored. Used through a bookmarklet, it is a useful tool to discover new del.icio.us users, pages, and build a network. I don’t care if it’s replaced by a feed, in which case I’d just need the relevant tags, usernames hyperlinks in that feed.

That’s spiffy! Good luck finding just the right person. In the meantime, I’d like to put in a bid for a function to cross-reference tabs. For example, if I were looking for something with tab A and tab Z, I’d be able to pull up everything that I marked with both of those tabs. Just a suggestion.
Thank you and keep up the good work!

Well, guess I’m brushing up on my C++ M@D 5k177z!!! Too bad I got my degree in 03, and haven’t done much coding work since :o(, another kick ass opportunity passes by, but no doubt there’ll be others. Guess I’ll really have to crack it for awhile, and get back up to speed…cool, an objective to work towards, the incredibly large field of “software engineering” has been narrowed down to a few KEY languages, C, C++, PERL, all a bitch to learn in their own ways, but the microscope’s shining more and more on C++, and less on the rest, which is fine by me . :o)

Well , people tag del.icio.us as awesome bookmar-manager !
So it would be fun to see how this ‘tagged’ team works in future..
Mauro | May 8 2007 at 12:41 pm
Hi del.icio.us,
I’m posting here because I want to share with you an idea I had but I have no time to implement it. I was reading an article for a Usability for Interactive Application course (held in Italy at the Politecnico in Milan) about an experiment done to test the effectiveness of the browsing history. Nobody use it because nobody can remember when he visited a web site, or what was its name. They discovered that it is really uneffective organizing the web pages in chronological order, so they tried to organize them in a semantic way. The experiment has shown that most of the users were able to find the information they where looking at faster with that history organization. The problem is that the architecture they proposed for a project that aims at implementing this semantic history thing is something crazy…like they want to store browsing history at the server side…
As I use del.icio.us I thought about using tags to organize history list, and more precisely to assing to each page visited a tag based on the tags assigned by del.icio.us users. This way the users can really use their history list even if they don’t remember when they visited a web site and which was its name.
I think it can be implemented as a firefox plugin.
Frank | May 8 2007 at 2:00 pm
Please pardon me for my ignorance, but del.icio.us is looking for a C++ coder to “help shape the next version of our website.”
I never knew that C++ could be used to create websites? To create/develop websites, most people use a combination of HTML/ CSS, PHP, ASP, ASP .NET, JSP, Ajax, etc……but with C++, how??
I’m sure I’m missing something. Somebody enlighten me please :).

hmmm C++ , i used this knife dipped for 2 years with “design patterns’s poison” 2 years ago. but then for last 2 years i have stopped fighting. now i settle the matters peacefully by using “C” with best of its capacity…………….
well, would like to consider to come back in the lethal business of contract e-killings…….
by the way, do i really need to come to Santa Clara for this ….i thought Dehradun (India) is a lovely place.

Alex | May 9 2007 at 5:25 pm
You have a great product idea but the workflow and usability are making it challenging for a lot of people to use your tools.
In addition to adding engineers, you might consider hiring a user experience or interaction design specialist. It looks like engineers have designed the product.
bex | May 9 2007 at 9:26 pm
so confused… why is del.icio.us using C++???
I would totally understand C… as well as Python/PHP/Perl/Ruby/Java/C#… Heck, even Scheme would make sense. But C++??? That’s hardcore in some really odd ways.
No offense, I love the product. I’m just surprised at the choice.

Sure that C++ coder is for struggling with berkeley dbxml database, which has the best api available in C++. I’m currently working with PHP api for that database and it is quite good, but I’m just rethinking about using C++ or Java languages. By the way, I’m a 3rd dan in C++ :-P

I’m actually replying to this because it was the first place i found where i could give feedback :)
You have a “bug” in some css on the “your bookmarks” page in the #main div.
You have margin-right set to 280px while the tag div has a width of 28%. This renders some overlap of the two when upsizing the window width. solution: margin-right:28% (or 29% if you want to make any good use of the padding you have tried to use):)
love the service and good luck finding a C++ guy/gal :)
Andy Booth | May 23 2007 at 10:44 am
I noticed the CSS issue too :). On the note of this topic though, I think most of us would be a little intimidated by the proposition of spending time in a room with the nerds pictured in your post :).
