face hugger

We’ve just launched our own official del.icio.us application for Facebook. It’s super easy to use; just visit our setup page, and after a few clicks you’ll be able add del.icio.us to your Facebook Profile page. The application lets you post a summary of your bookmarking activity to your Mini-Feed. It can also be configured to show your latest bookmarks so your friends can easily see what you’ve been reading.

Give it a shot and let us know what you think. We’re also working on additional functionality, so let us know what you’d like to see in future versions!

I’m looking for a del.icio.us app to plug into Facebook, but this needs a few more features. I want to filter by tag so that Facebook users only see items posted with a certain tag. Another idea would be the ability to see my tag cloud. Lastly, to pull a random set of links based on a tag. That would be great! Thanks!

    …and yet nothing shows up.

I had the deliciouslinks application in there, and then I put this on and removed that one, and now I got nothing. Yet, my account here tells me that I’ve set it up.

I removed it from my authorized applications, logged out, pretty much everything I can think of to make Facebook forget me, and I can’t get it back on there. I’m not sure how to clear it off to get it back to working.

But I would advise telling people who have that third-party version installed to remove that one, first.

only one request, dont merge del.icio.us account with yahoo account

  • joshua schachter  |  Jun 6 2007 at 12:53 am

John: Just add it and leave it, and it will get updated.

  • Nick Gerakines  |  Jun 6 2007 at 1:11 am

Known issue: When first adding the app, nothing updates

Solution: Bookmark something through del.icio.us after you add the Facebook app.

Currently the job that updates your profile/feed ignores users who haven’t saved anything since the last time it ran. This is a known issue and we will have it resolved soon.

I use the extended description of links as a kind of mini-blog for every link I post but this doesn’t show up in Facebook. Do you guys have plans to include this as an option? A del.icio.us update with the extended description (telling my friends *why* I have bookmarked that site!) is probably my most-wanted feature of Facebook at the moment.

  • Jim  |  Jun 6 2007 at 9:58 am

I tried to install this but nothing happened. I then went to the facebook application directory and installed the facebook application for del.icio.us by Steven Bao. Is this the official way to go or did something go wrong? I noticed del.icio.us looks a little different in my profile than in the description on the del.icio.us site and there is also a feature to only display certain tags (which other users requested here), so I might have installed the wrong application.

Does anyone know more about that?

  • bofe  |  Jun 6 2007 at 11:19 am

I’m still having issues. I added it, waited over an hour, added a bookmark, waited over another hour… and still not showing up anywhere on Facebook (profile, applications list). Any ideas?

  • joshua schachter  |  Jun 6 2007 at 12:21 pm

It doesn’t show up in the applications list. We can change that but there’s nothing to use, really.

Our app is at http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=2411052087 and is different from Stephen’s.

Okay, for whatever reason, clicking through on that link installed it correctly (I got the “This will start to update automatically in the next few minutes.” on my profile).

  • Steven Bao  |  Jun 6 2007 at 2:06 pm

Congratulations on the release - looks much better than mine :) I’m working with Facebook to replace the official application on the directory with yours.

  • Jim  |  Jun 6 2007 at 3:22 pm

Thanks for the link, Joshua. This worked for me and now my bookmarks are updated.

  • bofe  |  Jun 6 2007 at 5:02 pm

    That link worked. Thanks!

  • zeki turk  |  Jun 7 2007 at 5:17 pm

    That link worked. Thanks!

  • zitty  |  Jun 7 2007 at 5:39 pm

Great app! But the mini feed should give the titles of added links and also include the extended description. Would be a great feature!

  • joshua schachter  |  Jun 8 2007 at 3:58 am

zitty: the contents of the newsfeed are very restricted; we’re working on it.

  • Janny  |  Jun 8 2007 at 4:21 am

Just add it and leave it, and it will get updated.

  • Mikael  |  Jun 8 2007 at 4:54 am

Great job but I don’t to show my links is it possible to change the username ?

  • Rob  |  Jun 8 2007 at 8:57 am

I’d like to see more functionality dealing with friends and networks. Maybe a way to find all your current FB friends who have the app installed and the ability to add them to your del.icio.us network.

  • NeedHelpPlease  |  Jun 9 2007 at 11:19 am

Guys I really need help about something.

I created a del.icio.us account whose password I have forgotten. I didn’t even associate it with an email address. Here comes the fun part, I’m logged into it on Firefox but the password wasn’t saved. Now it’s asking for my password when I try to change it or when I try to associate it with an email. I really need help.

    What should I do?

  • Jac  |  Jun 9 2007 at 5:45 pm

“Known issue: When first adding the app, nothing updates Solution: Bookmark something through del.icio.us after you add the Facebook app.”

I’ve done that, and the application still isn’t appearing on my Facebook profile. Also, the “sample” images that you see when you add the application are confusing–I can’t tell what they’re supposed to correspond to.

  • Adrian  |  Jun 9 2007 at 10:38 pm

It’d be nice if the newsfeed posts had more information about what I had saved to delicious, such as perhaps a random selection of the tags.

The app should also refrain from updating the feed more than once or twice a day (which should be configurable). If I’m tagging a lot of links, it seems like I can too many posts to my minifeed.

Somebody thinks about del.ici.us for My Yahoo!? It’s amazing that a module for Facebook were launch before a module for my yahoo!.

  • xau  |  Jun 12 2007 at 12:15 am

    awesome job! keep it up!

  • Kevin  |  Jun 12 2007 at 5:54 am

“I’d like to see more functionality dealing with friends and networks. Maybe a way to find all your current FB friends who have the app installed and the ability to add them to your del.icio.us network.”

I’d really like that stuff too, social is the way to go… How about a “Share+”-button (like the one in “Posted Items”) that shares a link with one of your facebook friends who use del.icio.us?

(Also, could we have a setting to make the “Go to their bookmarks”-link go to del.icio.us/username/?setminposts=5 ? I tag excessively, and too many tags seems to make the page load very slowly…)

Anyone knows if del.icio.us shows a picture of the website…like miniature? It’s easier to know its subject before accessing the url.

    Joshua,

I’m writing you from Bestiario (www.bestiario.org) a small company based in Barcelona, Spain. We design interactive information spaces.

SIXPLI (www.sixpli.com) is a project that set out to develop a new system of visualization and spatial construction for projects created for web 2.0 such as del.icio.us. The trick is to break the linearity of these tools by transforming the cumulative-chronological set-up (post ordered in line) in a three-dimensioned work space that permits an integral comprehension of the information, giving priority to the structure of the contents and the relationship between these.

    Interesting.

  • Mark  |  Jun 21 2007 at 4:28 pm

Excellent work. Just curious, what do guys think of the service addthis, from addthis.com, that adds your service with a number of other social bookmarks?
