taste test

Fresh news from deep within Tag Mountain: we just launched an early, limited Preview of the Delicious redesign we’ve been working on for the past few months. We’ve refreshed the UI, built an entirely new (and faster) search engine, and added numerous improvements based on your feedback. The goal of this Preview is to get feedback from our users about the design changes and also start to put our new platform through the paces.
The initial invite list is already full, but we will likely be adding more openings in the near future. Check your links for you to see if you’re in the first round (sorry to be so indirect about it, but our privacy policy doesn’t allow us to email users about this sort of thing and we take that very seriously). If you don’t see the invite link but are interested in taking a look and giving us some feedback, you can add your username to the list.
We’ll be posting updates to this blog throughout the Preview process to keep everyone informed of what we’re learning. Thanks for your feedback and support!

Exciting :) So, when will it go live?
Britta Gustafson | Nov 4 2007 at 3:52 pm
We don’t have an exact release date yet, but soonish!
johannesdg | Nov 10 2007 at 2:39 am
can’t wait! it’s mysteriously silent on this blog about this…
Jason | Nov 13 2007 at 2:34 pm
ish…. A favorite phrase appended to terms especially when it comes to development releases….
Are we talking in 2007ish or Christmas 2008ish???
Britta Gustafson | Nov 14 2007 at 7:07 pm
Sounds like you understand why we don’t want to give out exact dates. :) Probably a couple months or so, give or take a few weeks…ish. There’s still a lot of work to do, but we’re working hard.

Can’t wait for the new delicious! I’ve seen previews and it’s looking great. The blog is looking great as well!

“Can’t wait for the new delicious! I’ve seen previews and it’s looking great. The blog is looking great as well!” I agree, been holding out on the edge of my seat for this as well.

Hi,
When is the roll out of new version of Delicious? I worked with it and it’s great, but I want to use it daily, and not only with an old backup of my bookmarks.
Thanks, Patrick
ilan | Nov 29 2007 at 3:25 am
too bad i didn’t get that invitation..
better wait for the public launch.
to emphasize Patrick Koning : when would that be?
godspeed
Britta Gustafson | Nov 29 2007 at 3:50 pm
We’re happy that you’re all looking forward to it! Same as earlier in the comments, the best answer I have is “as soon as we can”. :)

Good news i want try this…
wintermute314 | Dec 26 2007 at 5:38 am
What technology will it be based on? I saw a link to a sminar on Adobe AIR and Delicious 2.0.
http://www.svwebbuilder.com/page/8%2F29%2F07+Delicious+2.0:+Building+Candy-like+App+with+Adobe+AIR?t=anon
Will delicious 2.0 be a flex application? That would be nice!
Keep up the good work (but hurry up on 2.0 :-) !)

Britta Gustafson | Dec 26 2007 at 7:51 pm
There aren’t many details on that page, but it seems like the seminar might have been about “delicious” as in the design style of OS X applications like Delicious Library, not del.icio.us. Anyway, our Delicious 2.0 will use the Symfony framework - see http://www.symfony-project.org/blog/2007/10/02/delicious-preview-built-with-symfony
Josh | Jan 5 2008 at 1:19 pm
I’ve read the TechCrunch article, and I can’t wait for the new version - no rush though :).
Just out of interest, does the new version’s XHTML/CSS validate?
Marc | Jan 24 2008 at 4:50 pm
At a minimum, please add the following……
1. Mass delete
2. Order by date I bookmarked/added
3. Sub Bundles
4. Links For You…default to non friends
Right now I’m finding this MUCH hyped social bookmarking service useless and frustrating. I imported about 500 bookmarks or so and have no way to mass delete, no view search results by date added for the newly added bookmarks via the delicious button. As in I should see all the bookmark’s I added by date, not just tag. No way to sub bundle.
And most importantly, what I was hoping to get was the ability to see what others have bookmarked relative to bookmarks within a specific bundle, regardless of them being my friend. I don’t want to create new friends, I just want to know if what I have bundled is comprehensive. I’m floored there is no service for this.

Delicious is gonna be based on Symfony? Weeew! This whole site is running under PHP? Amazing! Do you offer some inside views into how to speed up a PHP-application width hundreds of concurrent threads? :)
Cheers
Manu

I updated to Firefox 3 beta and now the tag and del.icio.us buttons don’t work. Is this going to be fixed in the new release? And how about Opera as well?
Britta Gustafson | Mar 21 2008 at 3:17 am
Yes, we’ll update the extension for Firefox 3. For Opera, there are the bookmarklet buttons.
You are too SLOW | Mar 22 2008 at 7:19 am
How about releasing something that works with Firefox 3b, it’s been around for ages. You’re too slow.
Goodspeed | Mar 23 2008 at 2:38 am
Please release the del.icio.us extension for Firefox 3 beta 4.
Thx.

We’re working on it!

We’re approaching 7 months since you announced there was a new version coming. I know there’s a lot of shake up going on at Yahoo, but this is ridiculous.

I hope it comes out soon. Is it already out?

We’re not quite there yet. Stay tuned; we’ll definitely update the blog when we have news.

Hi. Is there any chance the new version of del.icio.us will be out this summer? If not, can I please request access to the preview site?
I love the idea of del.icio.us but have been frustrated with the current site’s design for some time.
Thanks!
Sergio | Apr 24 2008 at 4:11 am
@jnap @delicious,
Please update del.icio.us, I really think that this is one of the web applications that has had less innovation in two years!!
This is really unbelieavable.
Nick | Apr 24 2008 at 12:43 pm
Hi Everyone,
Thanks for your patience- we are definitely working on a major update and we’ll keep you posted on this blog.

Any chance I can get access to the beta version of the site? I requested access a while ago but have not found anything on my Links For You page.
Thanks!

When when when?? I am trying to pitch the idea of del.icio.us to my organization to incorporate in with our website…but I REALLY wish we knew WHEN the updates were coming (or what they are going to be, for that matter)
Katie | Apr 30 2008 at 6:17 am
And why can’t the bundles be links themselves? This would be a huge thing!!!
lynseydesign | May 9 2008 at 7:42 am
Yall need to come on with it. This site is sooo stale. I’ve been using this site for almost 3 years and I’m getting bored with it. I would hate to take my 860 bookmarks to magnolia.
Jeffrey T. Guterman | May 10 2008 at 6:53 am
In my opinion, delicious is the best social bookmarking service. So, I look forward to the redesign and remain patient yet eager for its release. By UI, do you mean that the look and feel of the site will be new? This might be a tall order, but I would like to see options for how the owner of an account could present their site to users. For example, color, font, layout, and so forth. Again, this might be too much.
bart | Jun 9 2008 at 3:28 pm
after a very long time without updates it is becoming more difficult to promote del.icio.us without mentioning magnolia…
you were the cream of the crop… and now you are … well uh… stale.
hope to see an update soon… will it be before your 5th b-day?
hadrien | Jun 11 2008 at 1:27 am

Why’s everyone so worried about an update? delicious works great as it is.
Jason | Jul 2 2008 at 9:15 pm

Your opinion is not shared by everyone. del.icio.us was great but it has become stale. Many sites have caught up with it. I simply want some information on the update and would love to beta test the new version.
Eric Carroll | Jul 23 2008 at 5:40 pm
I’ve wondered the same thing. Will we be able to test this new update or is the update even going to go live at all? Has it been shelved?
