I can has updated add-ons?

Delicious Bookmarks Add-OnsNew updates for the Delicious Bookmarks Internet Explorer and Firefox add-ons have been released. Our add-ons engineering team has been hard at work implementing new features and fixing bugs informed by your bug reports and feature requests. Many thanks go out to those users on our Forums who provided lots of feedback after downloading the beta versions of the extensions.

The Firefox add-on has received a major behind-the-scenes change as we moved from using RDF to SQLite for storing the bookmarks. This means that the add-on is faster and more stable, especially for users with large accounts. It has been updated to work with Firefox 3.1 Beta and now works on Firefox 2.0-3.1b1 on Windows, Mac, and most Linux distributions that support Firefox.

The Internet Explorer add-on has been updated to resolve some login issues that resulted in bookmarks not syncing properly and other login related weirdness. It currently works on Windows XP and Vista with IE 6, 7, and 8 (though while IE 8 is still in beta there may be some issues).

Both of the add-ons have had a new feature added that allows you to change or disable the keyboard shortcuts. This means no more conflicting keyboard shortcuts or difficulties trying to change the shortcuts if you don’t want them. Updates have also been made to improve the search, favorite tags, and sorting features.

We love getting feedback about the add-ons and have some cool new features planned for development over the next year, so join in on the conversation in our forums.

I suddenly see a new audio player for mp3 bookmarks with controls, a playlist and a “targetting” button. Is that part of the new features?

    I have a suggestion for delicious…

Internet Explorer 8 has a new feature called webslices, which allows you to subscribe to microformats, save a bookmark on your favorites bar, and then click to see the content of the microformat.

What I would love is if I could have a webslice for a particular tag or tag bundle in my personal set. The webslice for a tag would show the links I’ve saved as well as related tabs, and for a tag bundle, the links and the bundled tags.

That would allow me to have quick access to particular delicious bookmarks in my set and display them like mini-menus on my favorites bar.

The idea could be extended to sets of bookmarks and tags across the delicious site of course.

But webslices or other microformats would be a good way to integrate web-based bookmarks in the browser (in this case IE8), without adding heavy sidebars or toolbars.

Nicola D’Agostino: Sharp eyes! We’ll talk a little about that soon.

Brian Shapiro: Thanks for the suggestion — sounds neat, and we can check it out.

Could you guys *please* remove the extra Bookmarks menu entries that were added a few releases ago? Or provide the option to remove them? Also when I click the RSS button, I don’t want it to suggest I add the RSS feed as a bookmark on Delicious. Please remove that too. :)

We spotted the player - GREAT IDEA.

    Whom do we credit?

  • Paul Irish  |  Dec 6 2008 at 9:40 am

    AD PR NY,
The player is the Yahoo Media Player, developed by Lucas Gonze, Mike Davis, and a great team of hackers.

Also, might I recommend you extend the account cookie for over two weeks? Maybe something like 10 weeks? 50 weeks? It’s infuriating!

Yahoo!

For a release or so you had finally fixed the problem of tag selection state not being kept when you close the sidebar. Now it is back. Arg!

I found a small bug with the updated add-on: alphabetical sort is wrong for bookmarks with an accentuated title. For example, I have a bookmark name “écrire”. It should be sorted like “ecrire” (like it was before), but with the updated add-on, the accentuated names appear after the non-accentuated ones.

  • Marcus  |  Dec 8 2008 at 10:56 am

Ahh, so much faster now. I have a couple thousand bookmarks and on Firefox the del.icio.us plugin is noticeably faster, it makes me a lot less hesitant to click that icon. Thanks!

  • Nicola D'Agostino  |  Dec 10 2008 at 7:40 am

Btw, thanks also for the Bulk Edit mode, which I just found out! :)

  • John Whitley  |  Dec 11 2008 at 1:35 pm

This probably goes without saying, but it’d be great to see a version bump for the add-on to support Firefox 3.1b2.

Also, is it a bug that the new logon form isn’t recognized by Firefox’s password manager… or a feature? (e.g. due other security-related form coding)

  • Jordan  |  Dec 14 2008 at 11:05 am

I still get the “you have signed out of Delicious” bug that existed in the previous version when I start Firefox, asking me to keep or remove my bookmarks. It also deletes all my cookies, signing me out of all my sites.

My toolbar button I had moved from delicious toolbar to main toolbar vanished and will not move over again. It is the button giving the dropdown options.

Hey, how about “bundles of bundles” for my tags? I want to use a tree-like view for my bookmarks, that’s something I always felt lacked in delicious!

You should also try better integration with Firefox’s bookmarks. Something like Foxmarks but with the power of delicious!

  • Judy O'Connell  |  Dec 25 2008 at 7:58 pm

well it might be updated, but it is really bad for tagging when you have an extensive network. The window is not resizable, so the save button is below the screen level!! Why can’t i set the tag window to do all the normal things, WITHOUT showing me my huge network list?? Otherwise, the tag button is now totally useless.

  • Cala  |  Dec 11 2009 at 10:01 am

Are you going to add a google chrome plugin like the firefox addon?

  • sevgi  |  Jan 3 2010 at 7:58 am

Ahh, so much faster now. I have a couple thousand bookmarks and on Firefox the del.icio.us plugin is noticeably faster, it makes me a lot less hesitant to click that icon. Thanks!
