Tag the season… in bulk!
Tag the season… in bulk!
As some of you have noticed, we rolled out bulk edit last week. By now everyone should be able to see a link to “Bulk edit (beta)” on your bookmarks page.
Bulk edit lets you share, unshare, tag and untag multiple bookmarks at a time.
My family asks me every year what I want for the holidays. I look at my wishlist tag and I realize maybe a Tony Stark Iron Man-like robotic suit or a $37,000 exotic hypoallergenic leopard-like kitty might not be in their budget. Now I’ve got the ability to very quickly adjust my wishlist.
But the spirit of tagging isn’t just for wishlists, now you can also:
- Share bookmarks you imported as private
- Mark private those NSFW bookmarks before you share your delicious page with mixed company
- Refine your tags for maximum awesomeness.
You’ve been asking for this feature so let us know what you think.
Happy Tagging!

Matt,
Right now you can only delete one tag at a time:
https://secure.delicious.com/settings/tags/delete
We’ll look into alternative interfaces for removing tags en masse.

Thanks Dave. When I first imported, I made the mistake of accepting the recommended tags for all. Now it’s out of control. I need to delete them all and start from scratch.

Matt — you can delete each offending tag by going to the page for that tag, selecting “Bulk Edit”, choosing the bookmarks you want to remove the tag from, and then selecting that tag for deletion.
You’ll have to do this for each tag though…
Matt Soreco | Dec 16 2008 at 12:57 pm
Thanks for the advice Nathan, but it’s still too much as I have over a hundred offending tags.

Can we add the “Bulk Edit” link for the search results page? Sometimes, I hope I can search for some keywords and bulk edit the results in My Bookmarks section (adding/removing tags, …) from there.

Great feature; thank you Delicious team!
I’d like to second Ziru’s suggestion though; bulk editing search results would come in very handy.
kaputt | Dec 16 2008 at 2:06 pm
yes! i’ve waited very long for this feature! well done!
Dave Dash | Dec 16 2008 at 2:32 pm
Ziru, Konstantinos,
This of course is a natural direction for Bulk Edit and it’s definitely on our todo list.
Kaputt,
Thanks :)

For Delicious + wishlists, try my http://delishlist.com.
For an example list, here’s mine: http://delishlist.com/malesca
I do wish you guys would add a “delete” link to the edit page again, like old Delicious, though :) I think there is currently no other decent way for me to provide that functionality.

Henrik,
I’ll look into getting that added back in. Our extension supports that, no reason why we can’t in our save interface.

I am adding delicious on and off on Firefox. I don’t know why but is slowing this browser very much. I had before Firefox 2 and I got many errors. I uninstalled then installed new version imported bulk bookmarks and again is slow. If you can give me an advice (may be I am doing something wrong) will be appreciated.
Britta Gustafson | Dec 18 2008 at 1:54 am
Elena: Does it say it’s still “importing bookmarks”? You can also try using the add-on in Classic Mode, which just provides simple bookmarking buttons and won’t slow down your browser at all: from the “Delicious” menu in Firefox, choose “Switch to Classic Mode” at the bottom.

Dave: Wow, thanks so much.

Would love the ability to make tags private or hidden.
Please consider this at your convenience.
Happy Holidays!

I am greatfull to entire Team FROM DELICIOUSS BLOG; your abillity to inreach intraline, online and off-line is remark and bookmark in the whole entire small world;
But, one heavy worker with the back, named triple aches, says ones, because, I observed three or four men from branch, use to think, even in an uncocioussness statement;

I’d expect bulk tag editing to edit ALL entries with a given tag, rather than 100 at a time. Paging through can be tedious…
Dave Dash | Jan 6 2009 at 8:58 pm
Jodi,
This is something we may do down the road.

i’ve tried the bulk tag editing and was expecting that all entries would be tagged. Why not do you know?
ajmot | Apr 2 2009 at 7:45 pm
Yes, please allow us to bulk edit tags for search results. I have more than 1000 bookmarks, and if I want to apply tags to batches of 50 or 100, the only way I can see doing it sensibly would be to search for the common terms (like, “Wikipedia”) and batch tag. Firefox bookmark organizer doesn’t even let us do this without an add-on that requires a sign-up process. Blah!
